Tonight, almost 200 people are expected to gather at the Bournemouth Pavilion for the Diverse Abilities annual party for adults in supported living.
Carers, support staff and volunteers will join the adults that the local Dorset charity support for an evening of celebration in true Great Gatsby style. Donned in flapper dresses, pinstripe suits and trilby hats, the revellers will enjoy a three-course meal, a live soul singer and DJ.
The event, which has grown in popularity and size over the years, also features an awards ceremony for the people in supported living. For the first time, these awards will be completely funded by sponsorship from Nourish Care.
Mandy Cunningham, Supported Living Deputy Manager, commented: “This event is something all staff and people who use the service look forward to each year. It’s great fun and a fantastic way to bring people together to show our appreciation and congratulate those who have overcome some particularly difficult challenges in the year.
“Previously, the awards and trophies were funded through small fundraising events. So, we were delighted when Nourish Care offered to sponsor not just one, but all of the awards. It means we can make the trophies extra special. It’s also presented us with an opportunity to develop a relationship with the team outside of a business setting and we love that because we love what Nourish Care stands for.”
The supported living team currently supports 38 people with physical and/or learning disabilities in 22 locations across Bournemouth and Poole; and none will leave the party empty handed. A total of 38 personalised awards will be given in the following 8 categories:
- Absolute Legend Award
- Dapper Award
- Smooth Talker Award
- Art Deco Award
- Dollar and a Dream Achievement Award
- Charleston Dancing Award
- All Star Sports Award
- Hot Rod Personality Award
Resource Planner, Steve White, has also played a key role in planning the event. He added: “We spend a lot of time with the people we support and they all deserve recognition. Everyone will get an award tailored to their personality.”
The individual nicknamed ‘Casanova’, for example, will certainly be receiving a Smooth Talker Award for his ability to charm everyone with a single smile. Whilst the Absolute Legend Award will be presented to those who have shown exceptional strength this year, in the face of some very tough challenges.
Members of the Nourish Care team will also be joining in the fun and celebrations. Our decision to sponsor the awards was a simple choice to make.
“We are in absolute awe of the great work that the entire team at Diverse Abilities does,” said David White, our Head of Account Management. “The team not only work long hours to provide the best quality of care, but they also give up their time to fundraise and ensure the charity can go above and beyond for the people they support.
“What’s so fantastic about this event is that it focuses on the people they support and we jumped at the opportunity to be able to give back in this way. When we looked at all of the categories, we simply couldn’t choose between them. We very much look forward to joining Diverse Abilities for an evening of celebration.”
How Diverse Abilities and Nourish Care work together
Diverse Abilities aims to enable adults with physical or learning disabilities to live as independently as possible in their own homes. This year, they will start using the Nourish Care system in their supported living services to simplify the planning, recording and reporting of care.
Mandy said: “After we saw the demo, we could see that the potential was endless. It’s so easy to use, adaptable and person-centred. I’m particularly excited about the ability to raise alarms and pull detailed reports. We found the team at Nourish Care have real personality and have really supported us in adapting the system to the needs of our service. They provide more than just a product – they genuinely care about the impact their system has on the people we support and that shows in the service they provide.”
